The Polish Dance Ensemble S.PK. Iskry was founded in 1967 by Mr. Henryk Lorenc to mark the Centennial of the Canadian Federation. The ensemble operates under the umbrella of the Polish Combatants Association Branch #13.

Over the years, Iskry has grown and developed with the strong leadership of their choreographers and artistic directors: Henryk Lorenc and his daughter Bożena Langtry, Teresa Łobczuk, Natalia Ciecielska, Ewa Bielecka, Sandro Barbosa, Andrea Piotrowski, and Mr. Lorenc’s grandchildren, Krysia Kovach and Robert Langtry. Iskry is currently under the direction of Magda Jhagru.

The ensemble boasts a number of remarkable historical achievements. Iskry had the honour of performing at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Quebec. In 1999, the ensemble had the privilege of attending a private audience with His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, in Vatican City. In 2002, Iskry became world champions after winning the Mazur Dance Competition in Rzeszów, Poland, and was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Mayor of Winnipeg for their success.
